Sylvia Yvonne Lee was born May 2, 1941 in Detroit, Michigan. She moved to Bakersfield from Michigan with her mother and her daughter in 1965. She worked several jobs before attending and graduating Bakersfield College to become a preschool and substitute teacher. In 1972 she obtained her LVN and worked at several local hospitals including Mercy, Bakersfield Memorial, and San Joaquin Community Hospitals. She retired from Mercy in 2009 after 25 years of service.

Sylvia was known for being hard working and fun loving. Laughter was one of her favorite things, whether she was making people laugh or others making her laugh; she felt that being light hearted through laughter was one of the best gifts we have to offer.

The Lord called Sylvia to her everlasting home in heaven on November 17, 2014 from the familiar surroundings of her Bakersfield home and family.

Sylvia is preceded in death by her parents Floyd Marvin Lee and Sylvia L. Lee.

Sylvia is survived by her daughter Myoshi Lee of Bakersfield; brother Floyd Lee of Lake Elsinore, California, Sister in-law Dorothy Lee and niece Desrill Lee of Altadena, California; nephews Jamal Lee and Aumon Lee of Phoenix Arizona, and many extended family members of Bakersfield, California.

A celebration of her life will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church 900 H Street, Bakersfield, CA 93304 on Thursday December 4, 2014 at 0900 am. Burial procession to follow service to Historic Union Cemetery, 730 East Potomac Ave., Bakersfield, CA 93307.

Reception to be held following the burial at the Father Lahey Hall, on the grounds of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church 900 H Street, Bakersfield, CA 93304.
