Rites Monday For J. Robert Peek, 80
J. Robert Peek, 80, a widely known farmer of the Waldron area, died unexpectedly at 9 p.m. Thursday in his home 1-1/2 miles southwest of Waldron.
He had been in normal health prior to being stricken and his death came as a shock to relatives and friends.
Born in Liberty Township, Shelby County, Feb. 15, 1888, he was a son of John T. and Rose Emma Jones Peek.
He had engaged in farming in the Waldron area throughout his life and had operated a threshing outfit for a half century.
He was active in establishment of the Shelby County REMC and served as president of its board of directors for 20 years.
He was united in marriage Sept. 1, 1913 with Marie Tindall, who survives with their three children. Mrs. Orville (Mary Ruth) Lee, Indianapolis, Mrs. Rebecca A. Campbell, Shelbyville, and John T. Peek, Lafayette.
Also surviving are a brother, Earl R. Peek, Waldron; three sisters, Mrs. Rosanna Klipple, Greenwood, Miss Nellie M. Peek, Shelbyville, and Mrs. Gertrude Smith, Raub; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Five brothers and sisters preceded him in death.
Mr. Peek was a member of the Waldron United Methodist Church and the Pioneer Engineers Club at Rushville.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday in Carmony Funeral Home at Shelbyville by the Rev. Edgar Cooper, pastor of the Waldron United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery at Shelbyville.
Visitation at the funeral home will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday.
