GEORGE ALDRICH
KEOSAUQUA - Former Van Buren County engineer George N. Aldrich, 81, of Keosauqua died at 4:30 a.m. Jan. 4, 1985, at St. Joseph Hospital in Ottumwa.
He was born Dec. 29, 1903, Near Waukee to Charles C. and Louisa Robertson Aldrich. He graduated fromWaukee igh School and Iowa State University in Ames. He married Elsie Knoll on May 25, 1928, near Waukee. They moved to Kausauqua in 1929.
He served briefly as assistant Van Buren County engineer and held the county engineer's post from 1930 to 1949 anf 1957 to 1965. He was a founding partner of Keosauqua Motor Company in 1949 and continued as a officer of the company.'He was a member of Kausauqua United Methodist Church and had served on the church board, Keosauqua school board, city council and was active in Keosauqua Commercial Club and a past member of Keosauqua Lodge 10 AF&AM.
He was named Keosauqua's "Man of the Year" on Feb. 14, 1967.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Donald os Keosauqua and Roger of Jacksonville, Fla.; a daughter, Mary Lou Thompson of Alameda, Calif.; five grandchildren; and a sister, Stella Elson of Mea, Ariz.
The service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Keosauqua United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Purdom Cemetery at Keosauqua.
Visitation is open at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua.
Memorials for the Keosauqua Public Library Trust Fund may be left at the funeral home.
