James P. (Jim) Ellis,77, of Billings, MT died peacefully at his home on November 29, 2014.

He was born August 6, 1937 in Billings, MT to Melvin and Sally Ellis. He graduated from Billings Senior High School and upon graduation enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. After his service in the military, Jim returned to Billings and worked for Montana Electric for several years.

He was very fortunate to be hired onto the Yellowstone County Sheriffs Dept. in 1972, which was his life long dream. He retired after 30 years of dedicated service. Jim was extremely proud of his military service and his career with the Sheriffs Dept. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and had many great memories and stories of his adventures.

A service will be held to honor Jim’s life at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, December 3, at Smith Downtown Chapel, located at 925 South 27th Street.

Interment will follow at Mountview Cemetery.
