Ivan M. Umphress, 88, of Streator, passed away Monday December 1, 2014 at Heritage Health and Rehab, Streator.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday December 6, 2014 at Erven Avenue Baptist Church. Pastor Curtis Starner will officiate. Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons. Full Military Rites will be provided by members of the Leslie G. Woods American Legion Post #217 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1492. Cremation rites were accorded following the services. Private family burial will be at a later date.

Born November 19, 1926 in Shirley, IL he was the son of Henry and Bertha (Gilbert) Umphress. He married Vivian (Messer) Umphress on February 19, 1989. He is survived by his wife Vivian of Streator, IL., sons Donald (Nancy) Umphress of Rutland, IL., Neil (Dena) Umphress of Rutland, IL., 11 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren, sister Doris Reynolds of Poplar Bluff, MO., son-in-law Lowell Bellamy, and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his daughter Diana Bellamy, Brother Joe Umphress, Sister Laura Bell- Bennett.

He served in the United States Army Ivan had his right arm amputated after surviving a Dec. 13, 1946, train accident in Mansfield, Ohio, while he was enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was a Electrician for Gene's Electric for many years in Toluca. He attended local grade schools and graduated from Toluca High School. After his retirement he went to County Fairs and sold candy and soft serve ice cream. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and attended Erven Avenue Baptist Church.
