The funeral service for Eleanor A. Aarestad of Fargo, ND, will be held at Boulger Funeral Home, 123 South 10th St, Fargo, at 2 PM on Saturday, Feb., 23, 2002. Eleanor will be buried in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Fargo.
Eleanor Adeline Anderson was born on July 30, 1917, in Bowen Township (rural Forman,), ND, the eldest daughter of Ellen (Walstead) and Arthur "Art" Anderson. Eleanor grew up on a farm northwest of Forman, along with her parents, brothers and sisters. She was raised in a close family environment consisting of parents, grandparents, many aunts and uncles, cousins and her brothers and sisters. She attended a prairie one-room school house. After high school, Eleanor attended the Wahpeton State School of Science and then the University of Minnesota. She then worked in Washington, D.C. with the Bureau of Recreation but soon became homesick for her family and friends, so returned to her beloved North Dakota.
Eleanor was united in marriage to Erwin Aarestad in Fargo on Aug. 15, 1942. They lived in Fargo for one year before moving to Crookston, MN, for two years. As the family began to grow, they moved to a farm near Forman on which some of Eleanor's family had originally homesteaded. They lived there for nine years before moving to Fargo and Harwood, ND. Erwin died in October 1994.
Eleanor is survived by her four sons and two daughters, Bruce Aarestad, Fargo, Wayne (Debbie) Aarestad, Aurora, CO, Janna (Larry) Andrews, Nettles Island, FL, Dean (Emily) Aarestad, Centennial, CO, Dale Aarestad, Fargo, Karen Aarestad, MD (John Dastmalchian), Riverside, CA. Eleanor is further survived by eight grandchildren; two brothers, Gordon (Melody) Anderson, Ft.Myers, FL, and Charles (Joyce) Anderson, Forman; and two sisters, Mildred (Roy) Humphreys, St. Joseph, MO, and Myrna (James)Newland, MD, Omaha, NE. Eleanor leaves behind many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He absence will be deeply felt.
