Betty Jane Wingfield died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2014, at her daughter’s home in Cedaredge. She was 94.

She was born in Morgantown, West Virginia, July 16, 1920, to Paul and Bernice Spurgeon. She grew up in Morgantown. After graduating from high school, she attended the University of West Virginia for two years.

She married the love of her life, John Lewis Wingfield, on Christmas day in 1939. In 1954 they moved to Las Vegas, Nevada. They also lived in Utah for fourteen years and then moved to Cedaredge, Colorado in 1982.

Mrs. Wingfield was a devout Christian and attended First Baptist Church of Cedaredge. She was an active supporter of conservative political causes and was especially involved with the Pregnancy Resource Center of Delta County.

She had a lifelong passion for reading, especially books on theology. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, sewing, crafts and photography. Mrs. Wingfield and her little blue Volkswagen bug were a familiar fixture in Cedaredge.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years.

She is survived by her son, Tom (Marguerite), of Montrose; her daughter, Jeanne (James) Leser, of Cedaredge; a granddaughter, Amy (Ray) Vaughn; grandsons, Ned Leser and Ben (Lacey) Leser; and three great-grandchildren.
