Alberta Van Zant
Our beloved sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Alberta Carol Van Zant left the Eureka Nursing Center to sit at the feet of Jesus on December 4, 2014, at the age of 83 years, and 5 months. Greeting her was her husband, Fayne; two sons, Randy and Rick; and her parents, Harry and Elizabeth Chichester; whom had preceded her in death.
Alberta was born on July 29, 1931, in Chicago, Illinois. The family moved to Springfield, Missouri, then to Fredonia, Kansas, where she graduated from high school. After her schooling, she moved to Wichita and worked at Cessna Aircraft. On February 27, 1955, she was united in marriage to Fayne Van Zant. They made their home in Orangevale, California in 1957. Fayne preceded her in death. Alberta worked at Spears & Keys Fiber. She moved to Caney, Kansas in 1994, then to Eureka in 2001.
She was a member of the Tyro Christian Church in Tyro, Kansas.
She is survived by one brother, Richard Chichester, a missionary in Magdalena, Sonora, Mexico; three sisters, twin, Roberta Samuels of Eureka; Nancy Only A Chief of Pawnee, Oklahoma; and Sue Snyder of Eureka; two grandsons, Steven and wife, Michelle Van Zant of Phoenix, Arizona; and Anthony and wife, Laci of Caney, Kansas; three great-grandchildren, Eric, Alex, and Olivia, and a host of nephews and nieces.
Graveside services will be 2:00 P.M., Monday, December 8, 2014, at Greenwood Cemetery, in Eureka, with Reverend Jerry Clark officiating. Visitation hours are from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Sunday, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the Alberta Van Zant Funeral Fund. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
