Born in Georgia 11/6/1817 Martha Ann Elizabeth Moore was the daughter of Jacob Moore and Elizabeth Jackson Moore. She came as an infant with her parents in a wagon train from Georgia to settle in Alabama. She married, first, Benjamin B. Dyer on July 30, 1834. She married, second, Henry Smilie (son of Sarah Raiford and Jacob Smilie). Henry Smilie died May 15, 1850 and was buried in the McNeill cemetery near Pine Level.Because there was no will the entire estate was sold. Martha received one fifth of the total settlement as her part of the estate. The estate included all the household items put up for auction along with land, farm equipment,livestock and slaves.
On April 2,1854 Martha Smilie married, third, Henry Kiah Talley in Montgomery County. After Henry Talley's death Martha married, fourth, Malachi Raughton on December 17, 1867.
He was a younger man and her farm overseer. There is no record of how long this marriage lasted. Until her death she lived in the home of her son Jackson and his family.
Martha Smilie was 91 years of age when she died and was buried in the Moore Family Cemetery. Her tombstone reads
