John Inskeep Van Meter III, 57, of Piketon, dies Thursday at Adena Regional Medical center after a battle with cancer.
He was born Oct 14th, 1940, the son of the late Joseph Inskeep Vause and Helen Janes Van Meter.
He is survived by his wife Emma Cooper whom he married June 25, 1966; two sons Joseph Vause Van Meter and Luke Isaac Van Meter; two daughters Mary Jennifer Van Meter and Sarah Elizabeth Van Meter; two sisters: Kezia Van Meter Sproat of Chillicothe and Mary Vause (John Elliot)Gordon of Fairport, NY.; several nieces and nephews; father-in-law: Clarence C. Cooper of Jackson,Tenn.; brothers and sisters-in-law Gary and Sharon Cooper, Michael and Lana Cooper all of Waverly, Roger and Kandace Cooper of Piketon.

He was preceded in death by a sister Cornelia Sisson Van Meter Metzger.
He was graduate of Moses Brown School in Providence, Rhode Island in 1959; received a bachelor of science degree in agricultural economics at Purdue University in 1964; was a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity; served in the United States Army; had manged Van Meter farm and was one of the founders and owners of Southern Ohio Communications ; served on the Scioto Valley-Pike County Board of Education; member of the Pike County Rotary Club; member of the Board of Trustees of Pike Community Hospital; served for many years on the Ohio State University Advisory Committee; was a member and elder of the First Presbyterian Church.
The time and date of memorial services at First Presbyterian Church in Chillicothe and burial in Grandview Cemetery will be announced at a later date by Ware Funeral Home in Chillicothe.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the First Presbyterian Church, Mead Drive, Chillicothe, Ohio 45601
