J. O. Gaston, 110-19th SE, longtime Paris watchmaker and jeweler, died Monday at 5:15 p.m. at St. Joseph's Hospital here, where he had been ill two weeks.
The funeral will be held Wednesday at Fry-Gibbs chapel, conducted by the Rev. John Shuler of First Methodist Church. Interment will be made in Evergreen Cemetery.
Surviving are Mrs. Gaston and two sons, J. N. (Norris) Gaston, Paris, and Frank W. Gaston, Fort Riley, Kan.; three grandchildren; a sister Mrs. Beulah Blackwell, Nacogdoches; Ed Gaston and Cecil Gaston, also of Nacogdoches, and Watterson Gaston, Pasadena, Tex.
Joseph Oscar Gaston was born at Melrose, Nacogdoches County, March 17, 1882, son of the late Frank and Zoe (Schoefner) Gaston. He married Miss Minnie Lee Woods of Gatesville, October 30, 1916, and they moved to Paris in 1920.
Educated in Nacogdoches County schools, he attended Summer Hill Select School, and received diplomas in watch making and as an optician, graduating in 1908 from the St. Louis (Mo.) Watchmaking School. He was employed successively in Nacogdoches, Bay City, Gatesville, and Temple, Tex, coming to Paris from Pine Bluff, Ark. He was in the employ of the late Guy S. Caldwell, jeweler and optician here, about 10 years before opening his own shop, which has been at 9 W. Houston St., some time. He was a former member of the Elks Lodge.
