WWI Soldier. Service Number: 6284. Son of John "Jack" Breen and Marion. Frederick enlisted for WWI on Oct. 14, 1916, in Melbourne, giving his father as his next of kin. He departed Melbourne for England on Nov. 23, 1916, on board the Hororata, and then joined the war effort in France on May 9, 1917. He received a gunshot wound that resulted in a severely fractured right arm on Oct. 9, 1917. He spent a few months in hospital recuperating in England and returned to Australia on Mar. 12, 1918, for eventual discharge on Jul. 4, 1918.
