New York State Treasurer. He was a member of the Albany County Militia during the American Revolution. Lansing was a lawyer, and served as Albany County Surrogate Judge from 1787 to 1808. Originally an Anti-Federalist who helped organize the Democratic-Republican Party, Lansing later became a Federalist. He served as New York State Treasurer from 1803 to 1808 as a Democratic-Republican, and 1810 to 1812 as a Federalist.
