James "Jim" Woodrow Shumate
(May 22, 1930 - December 8, 2014)
Mr. James Woodrow “Jim” Shumate, age 84, of McGrady, died Monday, December 8, 2014 at his home. He was born May 22, 1930 in Wilkes County to Ira and Verna Cleary Shumate. Mr. Shumate attended Rock Springs Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Judy Caroll Harrold; sisters, China Hincher, Grace Adams; brothers, Monroe Shumate, Luther Shumate, Mack Shumate, Rex Shumate, Bill Shumate and Dwight Shumate.
Surviving are his wife, Eva Grace Jennings Shumate of the home; three sons, Larry Shumate and wife Madge of North Wilkesboro, Tim Shumate of McGrady, Ronald Shumate and wife Gail of Millers Creek; daughter, Patricia Ladd and husband William of McGrady; two brothers, Everett Shumate, Robert Shumate and wife Mickey all of North Wilkesboro; two sisters, Pauline Davidson of North Wilkesboro, Theda Dean and husband Derek of Millers Creek; six grandchildren;eight great grandchildren; and one great great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held 2:00 o’clock Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at Pine View Baptist Church with Rev. Brian Blankenship and Rev. Kevin Souther officiating. The body will lie in state from 1:30 until 2:00. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Miller Funeral Service from 6:00 until 8:00 o’clock Tuesday night. Flowers will be accepted. Miller Funeral Service is in charge of the arrangement
