Prominent Young Business Man, Son of Millionaire, Dies in Philadelphia
Philadelphia, March 13 [1902] - William Lukens Elkins, Jr, died today at his country home, "Menlo Lodge," near Elkins Station, Pennsylvania, a few miles from this city. He was a son of the millionaire traction magnate and was himself prominently identified with many business interests. He was about 38 years of age. Mr Elkins has been ill since last October and was constantly under the care of a physician for a cerebro-spinal trouble.
At the time of his death, Mr Elkins was president of the Pennsylvania Iron Works Company, the Otto Coke and Chemical Company, the Pittsburgh Coke and Gas Company, the United Coke and Gas Company, the Hygeia Hyde and Cold Storage Company, the McKeesport Gas and Improvement Company, and the New England Gas and Coke Company. He was also a director of the Allis-Chalmers Company.
Mr Elkins was a well-known clubman, being a member of the Union League, Philadelphia Racquet, Philadelphia Four-in-Hand, Philadelphia Gun and Huntingdon Valley Clubs.
Mr Elkins' widow, Kate Felton Elkins, is the daughter of Col C W Felton of California. He leaves two children, Felton Broomall Elkins and Louisa M Elkins.
