Marriage, Mary Magdalena Hoch, June 16, 1870, Mowersville, Franklin County, PA.

They had children: Magdalena "Lena" Aura Taylor, first wife of Andrew "Stover" Fitz; Phoebe E. Taylor; Martha E. Taylor; Georgia M. Taylor, unmarried; Annie B. Taylor, unmarried; Bessie M. Taylor; Huldah G. Taylor, married her brother-in-law Andrew "Stover" Fitz, after the death of her sister Magdalena "Lena" Aura Taylor Fitz, and Martin Samuel Taylor Jr.

Although he was a Civil War veteran, his name is not found in Bates' History of Pennsylvania Volunteers, the Pennsylvania Archives' ARIAS file, or even in the company register for the unit listed below. However, he does have compiled military service records and received a pension for his service. He enlisted in Philadelphia September 2, 1863, and mustered into federal service there September 13 as a private with Co. I, 198th Pennsylvania Infantry. Again an oddity, a casualty sheet lists him as "rejected" to date September 14, 1864, a year after he had mustered, reason given as "underage & lack of physical development." A month later on October 2, he was wounded in action at Peeble's Farm, Virginia, and admitted to the division hospital where surgeons amputated his left forearm. He discharged the service by surgeon's certificate January 12, 1865, from Lincoln U.S. Hospital, Washington DC.
