L. KADOW, AGED 79, VET MEAT DEALER PASSES
Washington Street Merchant for 54 Years Dies Six Weeks After He Had Retired From Business
Retiring to private life six weeks ago, when he sold his property at Ninth and Washington streets, Leo Kadow, 79, engaged in the meat business in Manitowoc for fifty-four years, passed away Sunday morning at the family home, 1401 South Tenth street. He has been in failing health since last February but continued in business until a few weeks ago.
Death of Mr. Kadow took one of the pioneer business men of Manitowoc who established his business here when Manitowoc was but a struggling village back in 1873. A little over three years ago the deceased with his wife, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.
Born in Province, Posen, Germany, March 26, 1850 he came to America in 1873 and settled in Manitowoc. He first entered the employ of Fred Seeger, pioneer meat market dealer on the north side. He was married June 27, 1876, to Francis Reiderer and shortly afterwards engaged in business for himself on Washington street, on the site which he recently sold to the Anderson Electric Co. and on which a new business block is now being erected.
Burial on Wednesday
Besides the widow the deceased is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Max Milski, Mrs. Henry Guidinger, and the Misses Hattie and Theodora, all of this city, four sons, Edward J., Antigo; Frank, San Francisco; Alex, Milwaukee and Arthur of this city and one brother, Frank Kadow Sr. of this city. There are also seven grandchildren surviving.
The deceased was a member of the St. Boniface society and also the Catholic Knights. Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at nine o'clock from the St. Boniface church with interment at Calvary cemetery.
