Earlene was born on March 28, 1913 in Blair, Oklahoma, to Thomas Jefferson and Texas Eva Lena (Gibson) Barnard. She grew up in Oklahoma and after graduating high school earned a cosmetology degree. Earlene owned and operated her own beauty salon. After retirement, she continued her profession by volunteering her skills for over 23 years at University Hills Nursing Center. Earlene also volunteered at the Senior Center and was a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church and the Neighborly Sunday School Class.
She married Conrad Kenneth Couger in 1935 and they were blessed with 64 years together. Earlene’s greatest joy was the hours she spent babysitting and playing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved spending time in her garden, planting flowers, sewing and researching her family genealogy.
She is preceded in death by her best friend and the love of her life, Conrad Couger; son-in-law, Morris “Buzz” Hamilton; parents, Thomas and Lena Barnard; brother, Melvin Barnard and sister, Jean Golden.
Earlene leaves behind son, Kenneth Couger; daughters, Kay Hamilton and Susan Jackson and husband, Ronnie; grandchildren, Carolyn and Mark Stubbs, Michael and Mechele Couger, Greg and Jennifer Couger, Courtney and Curtis Hutcheson, Matt and Katie Hamilton, Scott and Lisa Tremont and Stacy and Tom Enders and 16 great-grandchildren. She will also be remembered by her sister, Ernestine and C.W. Ayers as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
