Suggested edit: The son of Peter Appel & Hannah Margaret (Sheads) Myers, in 1860 he was a clerk presumably living in Gettysburg, Adams County, Pennsylvania, although he is not found in that census. He is, however, in the 1863-65 draft registration residing there and lived there before and after the Civil War. He stood 5' 6" tall and had dark hair and dark eyes.
A Civil War veteran, he enlisted at the stated age of twenty-one at Camp Wayne in West Chester, Chester County, June 8, 1861, and mustered into federal service at Camp Carroll in Baltimore, Maryland, July 26 as a private with Co. K, 1st Pennsylvania Reserves (30th Pennsylvania Infantry). He discharged by surgeon's certificate for rheumatism to date December 22, 1861, at Camp Pierpont in Langley, Virginia.
He married Ann Elizabeth Culp May 7, 1863, and fathered Charles Wesley (b. 03/15/66), Margaret Elizabeth (b. 05/15/70), Jesse Grace (b. 11/23/71), and Anna M. (b. @1874). Oddly, no obituary was found in any online newspaper archive except a brief death notice in the York Democratic Press identifying him as "J. Jeff. Myers."
