Don Felipe Carlos M.D., 88, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2014. He was born Feb. 26, 1926, in Houma, and resided in Houma, New Orleans, Folsom, Pensacola, Florida, and Mobile, Alabama.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at 7 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. until funeral time Tuesday at Chauvin Funeral Home at 5899 LA 311 in Houma.

The Rosary will be recited at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with burial in St. Francis De Sales Cemetery II.

He is survived by his children, Ketha C. Smallpage, Don Felipe Carlos Jr., Mary Katherine Crawford, CDR John Manya Carlos, USN (Ret.), Paula C. Luneau, and Edward Garrison Carlos M.D.; 15 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Georgia Bell Garrison Carlos; and parents, Alice Bertrand Carlos and Irving Carlos.

Dr. Carlos graduated from Terrebonne High School in 1942. He attended U.S. Naval Midshipman School at Notre Dame, graduating in 1945, and served as Ensign, USN until 1946. He received a BS in Biology-Chemistry from Southwestern Lafayette in 1947, and graduated from the University of Colorado School of Pharmacy in 1951. Dr. Carlos attended LSU graduate school from 1947 to 1949.
He went on to serve as a LT (USNR) on active duty from 1951 to 1953. He graduated from LSU Medical School in New Orleans in 1957, and was a clinical instructor there from 1952 to 1956.

Following medical school, Dr. Carlos completed an internship at Gorges Hospital, Canal Zone, Panama, in 1958 and completed his residency in General Psychiatry at LSU Medical Center and Charity Hospital in New Orleans. Dr. Carlos practiced General Psychiatry from 1961 in New Orleans, Covington, and Houma, until he retired in 2001, and moved to Pensacola, Florida.

Dr. Carlos was on the Medical Staff at DePaul Hospital and President of DePaul Hospital Medical Staff. He served on the Board of Governors of the Orleans Parish Medical Society and was a delegate of the Louisiana Medical Society. He served as President of the Medical Staff of the HSA Bayou Oaks Psychiatric Hospital in Houma.
