He graduated from Sam Houston Teacher's College in 1955 with a degree in Agriculture Education and earned his Master's of Education in 1957. That same year he enlisted in the US Army Reserves and was honorably discharged in 1961.
Rex was an educator for 35 years at New Waverly ISD, Troup ISD and Beaumont ISD before retiring and working for The Woodlands Parks & Recreation for 15 years. He took absolute pride in educating his students, his children and grandchildren on the ways of the land through FFA.Yearly, he took his students to shows, fairs and competitions to help them succeed.
He took pride in his service to his country, his community, his family, his church and Our Savior.He was a rancher and a gardener who loved picking and canning his bounty every year just to give most of it away to friends and family.
He was a proud member of the Walker County Cowboy Church.
He is survived his daughter, Rogena "Gina" White Morrison of Huntsville, Texas, son, Scott Haden White of Silsbee, Texas and the mother of his children Veronica Wojick White of Huntsville, Texas.
Grandchildren: Taylor Morrison of Denver, Colorado and Mason Morrison of Huntsville, Texas, Jessica White, Shane White of Beaumont, Texas, Chelsea White, Dalton White of Silsbee, Texas and their mother Anette White McKeehan, Logan White of Cypress, Texas. He is also survived by a brother Freeland White, Jr. of Diboll, Texas, sister, Mildred Bazar of Conroe, Texas and sister Daisy Chapman of Houston, Texas and a number of nieces, nephews and other family members and friends. Also, his beloved dog, Miss Patty who was faithfully by his side to the end.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Rexell Gene White, sisters Irene Clark, Linnie Chapman, LaVerne Hodgkins, Maguriete Blalock, brothers, Ford White, Hayden White, John Elvin White and Lindy White.
A celebration of life will be held Sunday, December 14, 2014 at 3pm at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home Chapel.
Visitation will be prior to the service from 1pm-3pm.
