Clarence D. Johnson passed away, from a lengthy illness, December 17, 2008 in Show Low, AZ.

Johnny, as he was known to his friends and family, was born May 23, 1927 in McPhee, CO to Clarence D. and Crisanta Velasquez Johnson. In May 1944, during the height of WWII, Johnny, misrepresenting his age slightly, enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. After Basic Training he saw action in Iwo Jima and Guam. He was one of only 3 Marines in his division to survive the vicious fighting during the first three waves of combat and saw the first flag raised on Mount Suribachi. He was seriously wounded but refused to desert his comrades during the fighting. He received 2 battlefield commissions to Captain. Johnny was honorably discharged from active duty in 1950 and the Reserves as Sergeant in 1954.

Johnny was an avid golfer and fisherman and could be found on the golf courses in Show Low and Imperial Valley, CA. He enjoyed fishing the streams and creeks of the White Mountains.

Johnny was a Calexico businessman for over 50 years and believed in the adage, "Service honoring the golden rule" and "The customer is always right."

He was a member of the Elks Club # 1382 in Calexico, CA. for 47 years and twice Past Exalted Ruler. Johnny had the unique ability to make friends wherever he went. He is loved by many and will be greatly missed by all those who knew him.

Johnny is survived by his loving wife, Ann, whom he married on December 5, 1972. He is also survived by his loving children, Donna Gaffaney, Diana (Derek) Wilson, Dorothy (Gene) Hall, Becky (Danny) Rosales, Sidney (Maria) Turner, Toni (Dennis) Noble, Rusty (Tonette) Johnson, Morgan (Gabby) Johnson; as well as numerous grandchildren,; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; sister, June Cardwell; brothers, Perry (Toni) [these are my parents - Ron], Larry (Lina), Pete (Lorraine) and Melvin (Virginia) Johnson; and many friends that he was very fond of.
