MARTINSVILLE — Charlene V. Brummett, 88, of Martinsville, died Thursday at the Morgan Hospital and Medical Center.
She was born May 26, 1921, in Solsberry to Hazel (Holcomb) Burkett and Charles M. Burkett.
Charlene was married to Shirley Brummett on Oct. 13, 1939, and he died Dec. 1, 1970. She later married Ronald “Pete” Henry, and he died June 12, 2001.
Charlene was a receptionist at The Waters of Martinsville, retiring in 1999. Prior to that, she worked at the Morgan County Auditor’s Office, Westinghouse in Bloomington and at Dr. Heavrin’s office. She enjoyed dancing, cooking and taking care of her family.
Survivors include two daughters, Judy Ayers and Shugg Bastin, both of Martinsville; three brothers, Noel W. Burkett and Bruce L. Burkett, both of Martinsville, and Leland S. “Dee” Burkett, of Florida; one sister, Hazel Lou Costin, of Florida; one foster son, James Huett, of Indianapolis; three grandsons, Bob Ayers, Brad Ayers and Bryan Ayers; three granddaughters, Cathy Fox, LaDonna Miles and Shawn (Bastin) Balay; nine great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Shirley Brummett; second husband, Ronald “Pete” Henry; daughter, Delores Ailene Archer; father, Charles M. Burkett; mother, Hazel (Holcomb) Burkett; two brothers, Lewis M. Burkett and Charles I. Burkett, Jr., and four sisters, Margaret L. Hunt, Ailene “Blondie” Milhon, Omega D. “Babe” Brummett and Anna Jean Huett.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Costin Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Becky Suter officiating. Burial will be at the Nebo Memorial Park Cemetery in Martinsville.
Friends may call 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and one hour prior to services Tuesday at the funeral home.
