Adam Fredrich Ruf was born August 7, 1897 in Holstein, Russia and died January 12, 1994 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He was the son of Fred and Anna Kelln Ruf. In 1898, when he was only one years old, the family sailed to America. They settled near Lehigh, Kansas before filing claims on homesteads south of Shattuck, Oklahoma. While his older brothers stayed home to work on the farm, he was sent to Clinton Theological Seminary in Missouri where he became a minister. While attending school he met Lydia Dollinger and they were married on July 12, 1923 in Edmonds, South Dakota. Their son Rolland was born in 1925. Adam retired from the ministry after more than 40 years, but remained active in the SDA church work until 1988. Adam and Lydia moved to Lodi, California where he was an associate pastor. After Lydia passed away, Adam went to live with his son in Tennessee.
