Rev. Johnnie Gettes Bullman, 79, a Christian and Minister of the Gospel, of Boiling Springs, went home to be with The Lord on Monday, April 17, 2006 at his home.

Born January 30, 1927, in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of the late Stacy Clifford and Annie Mae (Langston) Bullman.

A graduate of Piedmont Bible Institute and Beaver Creek Bible Institute, he was senior pastor and founder of Peace Free Will Baptist Church, serving for over thirty-one years. He was the founder and former pastor of Hearon Circle Free Will Baptist Church of Spartanburg and former pastor of First Free Will Baptist of Wilson, NC. He was also an evangelist, preaching revivals throughout the eastern United States. Rev. Bullman was founder and former moderator of the Palmetto Conference where he was a former member of the ordaining council. He was a member of the South Carolina State Conference, former state president of the Citizens for Decency, and a U.S. Navy Veteran.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Doris (Downey) Bullman; two daughters, Kathy Murphy and her husband Jim Murphy of Duncan, and Libby Thornton and her husband, Rev. Chuck Thornton of Spartanburg; two sons, Ronnie Bullman and his wife Susan Bullman of Union, and Johnnie Bullman, Jr. of Spartanburg; a brother-in-law reared in the home, Oliver Downey, Jr. and his wife Beth Downey of Spartanburg; two sisters, Sara B. Turner and Katherine B. Lake, both of Spartanburg; a brother, Kenneth Bullman of Spartanburg; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by three brothers, Billy Bullman, Charles Bullman and Jerry Bullman; and a sister, Iris Smith.

Visitation was 7:00-9 p.m. Tuesday, April 18, 2006 at Peace Free Will Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held at 12:00 noon, Wednesday, April 19, 2006, at Peace Free Will Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Chuck Thornton. Entombment was in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Heritage Chapel Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, memorials could be made to Peace Free Will Baptist Church, P. O. Box 4203, Spartanburg, SC 29305.
