The Benton Record, Fort Benton, MT, 13 Dec 1878
Fatal Accident. Adolph Arnold Accidentally Shot
Adolph Arnold, late of the 7th U.S. Infantry, was killed at his home in Fort Benton on the afternoon of last Tuesday by the accidental discharge of a revolver.
While the deceased was removing a bedstead in one of the rooms of his dwelling, the furniture was brought in contact with a loaded revolver suspended from a nail in the wall encased in a holster. The blow reversing the holster the weapon dropped out and discharge when reaching the floor, or by striking the bedstead in the descent. The bullet from the revolver entered Arnold's right side and passed upward through his body, causing almost instant death. Dr. Turner was summoned but the unfortunate man had breathed his last before or on about the time the doctor arrived.
Arnold leaves a wife and three small children. He was lately discharged from the 7th Infantry and has been a citizen of Benton about two months.
