PATRICK DEVINE FOUND DEAD AND
-----------------------
Body Rigid--Remains Discovered in Room Over Rabbitt's Saloon--Was Well Known Character in Morgan County
----------
Patrick Devine, well known throughout Morgan county was found dead Friday morning at 6 o'clock in a toilet room in connection with the sleeping apartments above Rabbitt's saloon on East Court street. He was 65 years old.

Mr. Devine had been in this city since last Wednesday and was in the saloon that day, but complained considerably about his health and asked if he might not get a room for a time to lie down. During all day Thursday he remained in his room and was last seen Thursday evening after supper. Samuel Farmer, who occupied the room with Devine, had a faint recollection of his getting up during the night, but aside from that remembers nothing else. It is difficult to tell just how long Devine had been in the closet, but it must have been some time, as his body was rigid when discovered.

The body was removed to Reynolds' undertaking parlors and later taken to the home of his son, Frank Devine, who lives six miles southeast of the city.

The deceased was a familiar character to many and had always been of a very industrious turn and was especially successful in stock, being employed at one time by C.S. Rannells at Pisgah.

He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Ella Kinney of Dakota, three sons, Frank of Pisgah, Henry of Arnold and William of Peoria, who is an engineer on the C & A Railroad. He also leaves two sisters, Mrs. F.P. Mahoney and Miss Kate Devine, both of Peoria, and one brother Lawrence of Omaha, Neb.

Coroner's Inquest.

A jury was empanelled by Coroner Spencer Friday morning at 10:30 o'clock and returned the following verdict that, "Deceased came to his death from causes unknown to the Jury, but we believe from the evidence that death was caused from Bright's disease."

The jury was composed of M.H. Carroll, foreman: W.R. Mitchell, P.A. Heneghan, Henry Holle, Frank Correa and Carl Joaquin.

Funeral services will take place from the Church of Our Saviour at 10 o'clock this morning and interment will be made in Calvary cemetery.
