Major League Baseball Player. Also known as 'Moon.' A native of London, Ontario, he made his major league debut on July 2, 1905, and played his final game thirteen years later on, August 20, 1918. Gibson played for the Pittsburgh Pirates from 1905 to 1915, and for the New York Giants from 1917 to 1918. The nephew of newspaper magnate William Southam and baseball manager Richard Southam, Gibson also managed the Pittsburgh Pirates from 1920 to 1922, and 1932 to 1934, and the Chicago Cubs in 1925. In 1958, Gibson became the first Canadian baseball player to be named to the Canadina Sports Hall of Fame, and in 1987 he was posthumously inducted into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame. In 2001 he was also posthumously inducted into the London Sports Hall of Fame in London, Ontario. He passed away in London, Ontario, at the age of 86.
