MRS. CHARLES ROSS
Mrs. Agnes Carpenter Ross, 87, widow of Charles Ross, died Tuesday at Putnam Memorial Hospital where she had been a patient for the past 24 days. She was the daughter of the late Solomon and Grace Lincoln Carpenter, born in Shaftsbury May 27 1873.
At the time of her death, she was a resident of North Bennington. Her education had been received in Shaftsbury and she was graduated from Castleton Normal School in 1892. She had taught school for a brief period and then continued her education at Albany Business College, later becoming associated as an office secretary in Boston and Hartford. She was married first to the late Merle Bottum.
She was married to Mr. Ross in July 1946. Prior to his death North Bennington and Shaftsbury areas, where she was a member of the Center Shaftbury Baptist Church. Her husband was a carpenter and had worked with the Polygraphic Co. in North Bennington.
She had been active in church work and greatly dedicated to missionary work. She had also been fond of gardening.
Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Jennie Sawyer of Rutland; nieces and nephews in Castleton, Rutland, East Poultney, Hartford and Glens Falls.
The funeral will be held at 2 pm tomorrow from Walbridge Funeral Home with the Rev. Alfred Scott of North Bennington Baptist Church officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm today. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Kurn Hattis Boys Home in Westminster.
Burial will be in Center Shaftsbury Cemetery.
