VIRGINIA LEE (TURNER) DURBIN
July 21, 1923 - September 26, 2018

Virginia Lee (Turner) Durbin, 95, of Shelbyville, passed from this life on Wednesday, September 26, 2018. She died peacefully at home with her daughter by her side. Born July 21, 1923 to Milo Leslie Turner and Lucy Viola (Thrasher) Turner, she married John Frederick "Fred" Durbin on November 27, 1941 and he preceded her on September 21, 1991 after 50 years of marriage.

Mrs. Durbin had lived in this area most of her lifetime, and graduated from Waldron High School in 1974. She was a member of Waldron united Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary Post #70.

Virginia was most proud of the fact that she went back to high school and graduated in 1974, a year before her youngest daughter, and then went to nursing school with her, to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. She loved her entire family, all 75, counting the spouses of her children and grandchildren. Her walls were covered with family pictures, in fact she was running out of space! She always had time to make another sock monkey for the newest additions to her family, and was always sending birthday cards, Christmas cards, and thank you cards for gifts she received. She was unique and special, and will be missed by all her family and friends.

Survivors include six children: John (Sharon) Durbin of Indianapolis, James (Carol) Durbin of Nevada, MO, Nancy Esters of Fairland, Les Durbin of Indianapolis, Alice Meyer of Shelbyville, Deanna (Charles) Thurston of Shelbyville; brother Richard "Dick" Turner of Odessa, TX; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, spouse, an older sister Elizabeth Avey, and her youngest brother Gus Turner.

Services entrusted to Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Van Pelt Cemetery.
