Thomas Jay Leisure, 70, a life long Rush County resident, passed away at his home in Rush County on December 22, 2014. He was born November 14, 1944 in New Castle to Eugene & Jenny Lou (Glendenning) Leisure. Tom was a 1962 graduate of Mays High School. He recieved his Bachelor's degree in Education from Indiana Central University in Indianapolis and his Master's degree from Ball State University. While at Indiana Central, Tom was drafted into the US Army. Tom married Maureen Leisure on April 12, 1966 and they were married for 29 years.

Tom spent his entire life in Rush County. His family had spent time in Minnesota on Leech Lake since the 1940's. He was an avid outdoorsman and fisherman and enjoyed watching football. Tom was a member of the Bass Masters Club and the Lewisville Masonic Lodge #72 F&AM.
He began his teaching & coaching career in Rushville at RCHS where he taught Health & Physical Education and coached football & wrestling. He retired in 1981. Tom taught & coached in Cambridge City for a few years. Tom had also farmed and worked for ICAP in New Castle for a short time before joining Farm Bureau Insurance in Rushville. He worked selling insurance until his retirement in 2012.

Tom is survived by his mother, Jenny Lou Leisure of Carthage, a son, Nicholas & wife Suzanne Leisure of Rush County, daughters, Joni & husband Adrian Degner of Columbus and Melinda Griffin of Greenfield, a brother, Alyn Leisure of Rush County and grandchildren, Alexander & Abbigail Leisure, Rye & Rowan Heckerman, Cass & Claudia Leisure, Clay & David Griffin and River & Thomas Degner. He was preceded in death by his father.

Services will be held at 2 PM Monday, December 29, 2014 at Moster Mortuary, Rushville with John Skomp presiding. Friends are welcome to visit at the mortuary from 1-6PM Sunday, December 28. Burial will be in the Hannegan Cemetery. Masonic rites will be observed at 5:30 PM Sunday evening at the mortuary and the Rush County Veteran's Honor Guard will provide military honors at the mortuary on Monday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hannegan Christian Church.

Tom requested that everyone dress casually. He was a casual kind of guy & believed in being comfortable.
