Manitowoc Pilot Thursday, June 23, 1881
********
The body of Tom O'Melia was found in thew river at Cleveland and brought
to this city Tuesday morning at interred at the Catholic cemetery. O'Melia
was lost last fall and although it was believed he was drowned nothing was
positively known of his fate.
Manitowoc Pilot Thursday, June 23, 1881
********
The recovery of O'Melia's body and the circumstances attending his death,
have given rise to the suspicion that he was foully dealt with. Branigan, his
brother-in-law, charges that O'Melia was murdered by his captain, and his
story has in it a great deal of probability. The captain was charged, with
having done the deed and shortly after disappeared and has not since been
seen. The police are looking out for the suspected man.
