Funeral services for Allie "Slick" Griffin Thomas, Jr., 88, of Belzoni will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 12, 2014 at First United Methodist Church of Belzoni. A visitation will be held at the church from 11:30am to 1:00 pm prior to the service. Arrangements are under the direction of Mortimer Funeral Home. Reverend Chance May will officiate.

He died at the Mississippi State Veteran's Home in Jackson, MS on Tuesday, December 9th, 2014. Slick was born on August 30, 1926 in Tallahatchie County, Mississippi to Allie Griffin Thomas, Sr. and Ethel Lee Mitchell Thomas. He graduated from Charleston High School and attended Delta State University.

During his life he owned a service station, and was an A-Operator for Texas Gas Transmission Corporation for 33 years. Mr. Thomas was a United States Army Veteran of World War II, where he served as a Sergeant. He was a former member of the Veteran's of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Lion's Club, Moose Lodge, and Southaven & Desoto County Board of Commissioners; and an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Belzoni.

He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Edwin Prendergast Thomas.

Survivors include: his wife, Wilma Brown Thomas; three daughters, Terry Thomas Mortimer of Long Beach, MS; Jeannie Thomas (Glyn) Wilson of Temple, TX, and Monnie Thomas (Brad) Armstrong of Madison, MS; one sister, Marinee Thomas Pennington of Webb; two brothers, Elmon Powell Thomas of Pontotoc, and Edward Lee Thomas of Starkville; six grandchildren, Monica Mortimer (David) Grant of Inverness, Amelia Mortimer Manning of Belzoni, Mitchell Wilson (Derek) Butler of Franklin, TN, Brett Ray Armstrong of Madison, Tyler Griffin Armstrong of Madison, Lucy Elizabeth Wilson of Corpus Christi, TX; two step-grandchildren, Leslie Wilson Dale and Jennifer Wilson; seven great grandchildren, James Thomas Grant, Monnie Allyn Rodgers, Isabella Lenore Manning, John Arthur Grant, William Fitzgerald Manning II, Ava Bowles Grant, and Griffin Wilson Butler.

Pallbearers are:

David Grant, Brett Armstrong, Tyler Armstrong, Jay Grant, Glyn WIlson, Derek Butler, Brad Armstrong, Lee Thomas, Ken Kornegay, Edwin Thomas, Jr. , Jim Pennington

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the First United Methodist Church of Belzoni.
