Richard Louis Abbott passed away on Friday, December 19, 2014 at the age of 78. He resided in Los Angeles, California, at the time of his passing. He was a resident of the Bunker Hill area in his youth and a resident of the Highland Park area of Los Angeles for 50 years.

Born in Indianapolis, Indiana, on August 23, 1936 he was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Evelyn (Ball) Abbott, and by his brother, Thomas R. Abbott.

Richard is survived by his wife of 57 years, Estella (Galindo) Abbott; children, Richard (Cyndee), David, Robert, Estella (Stewart) Pajares, Dennis (Debra), Philip and Steven; 13 grandchildren and 5 g-grandchildren. His Brother Harry E. Abbott of Grand Terrace, CA also survives him.

He was a 1955 Graduate of Belmont High School in Los Angeles serving as battalion commander for the school ROTC for two semesters. ROTC awards he had earned include leadership, rifle team, honor student, guard duty, best squad, best platoon, best company, neatness, and outstanding citizenship. He served as Sentinel lino-typist and stage crew manager for three semesters, was a member of the Knights, and was in the Eulexian Society for three semesters. He was one of three voted W'55 Ephebians

Upon graduation he was employed as a linotype operator for the Los Angeles Times. After the elimination of linotype machines he worked in the composing room until his retirement in 2001 giving him 46 years of service.
