He was born in Lynchburg, Bedford County, Virginia, the son of George R. and Rebecca (Hamer) Walker, brother to Isaac P. Walker, one of Wisconsin's first two senators, and George Hamer Walker, founder of Walker's Point in Milwaukee, WI. In 1850 John was a resident of Lee County,Iowa, by 1858 he is residing in Whitewater, Walworth, WI with his niece, Martha (Dunbar) and her husband, John Judd. 1860 he is living back in IA, and by 1870 he had moved with his family to Marengo, IA. His wife, Susan (McConnell) Walker is intered next to him, She was b. abt 1827 in PA or OH. and died in MIlwaukee, Nov. 18, 1876. They were married Jan. 8, 1849 in Johnson County, IA. He also went by the name of Wesley John. Five children that lived were born to them:
Mary Emma (Walker)Upham b. Dec. 01, 1849 in IA, d. Dec. 23, 1932 in Mil; Hattie (Harriet) Caroline (Walker)Murison, b. Mar. 14, 1853, d. Apr. 28, 1930 in Mil.,;
George H., b. abt 1857 in IA, d. after 1933.
Lily Rebecca, b. Nov. 2, 1859 in WI, d. Oct. 31, 1884.
Nellie M. Walker, b. Feb. 22, 1867 in Marengo, IA., d. Aril 16, 1886 in Mil. There are no monuments or markers on any of the Walker family graves.
