Mrs. Anna Katharine Schmolke passed away Friday, January 26, 1945 at 1:30 a.m. at the age of 98 years. 10 months and 20 days at the home of her youngest daughter, Mrs. Nellie Huebler of Neosho, route 2.
She was born March 5, 1846 in Borren, Switzerland.
She was born the fifth oldest child of Mr, and Mrs. John Ladderick.
She came to this county with her parents in 1860 at the age of 14 years to Troy, N. Y. The family came to MIssouri in 1865. She has always live a Christian life for over 83 years.
She was a good neighbor, ready to lend helping hands whenever she could. She was married February 14, 1867, at the age of 21 years to Aloys Schmolke, who passed away 32 years ago.
To this union was born six children. Three gone on beyond. One infant son passed away in 1868, one daughter, Laura Schmolke in1895 and one daughter, Mrs. Annie Sims in 1932.
She is survived by two daughters and one son, Mrs. Nellie Huebler and Oscar Schmolke who reside here, and Mrs. Josie Harmon of Houston, Texas. The latter was unable to be here account of sickness.
Sven brother and sisters have gone on beyond, John, Codly and Christine Ladderick, Elizabeth Schroutzer, Susie Willard, Mary Snider and Rosie Kerr. Also six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, 11 nieces and nephews precedes her in death.
Mrs. Schmolke's parents and family were among the first citizens of Neosho, as far as known, and she was the oldest citizen of Neosho at the time of her death.
Services were held Monday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. at the First Congregational Church. Rev. Robert Lehew, pastor of the Methodist Church was in charge of the services. Burial under the direction the Bigham Funeral Home of Neosho. Interment was in I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
