Jordan was born about 4 years prior to the death of his parents. In Kent Co., DE, there is a payment relating to Orphan's Court in the case of Richard Mannering in 1760, therefore, estimate Jordan's birth at 1756. However, it looks like his tombstone says he died in the 71st year of his age in 1837 (= b. 1766).

His parents were Richard Mannering, b. 1734, m. Mary Howell. Richard was the son of Oliver Manwaring and Hannah Hough.
