Family Will Mourn Alone
At Rites For 5 Gas Victims

A mass funeral service will be held tomorrow at 8 p.m. for four Brooklyn children and their great-grandmother who were asphyxiated by gas from a hot water heater Sunday morning.

The Lutheran service will be held in the Walter B. Cooke Funeral Home, 50 7th Ave., and only the immediate family will attend. The victims will be buried Thursday at 2:30 p.m. in Lutheran Cemetery, Middle Village.

The tragedy was discovered when Mr. and Mrs. John Alexander returned to their apartment at 388 17th St., after attending a wake to find three of their children - Barbara, 7; John, 5, and Edward, 4, and Mrs. Alexander's grandmother, Mrs. Ada Berger, 74, dead. The fourth child, Tommy, 2, died several hours later.

Although Alexander claims he does not need money, neighbors and police of the 5th Ave. precinct have raised more than $300 to help defray funeral expenses.
