HOLLIS and KENNEBUNK - Hilda Frances Libby, 99, of Huntington Common in Kennebunk, formerly of Hollis, died on April 16, 2006.
She was born on July 31, 1906 in Boothbay, the daughter of Stephen and Jessie (Spear) Bryer.
She attended Boothbay schools and graduated from Saugus High School in Saugus, Mass., in 1925.
She graduated from Gorham Normal School in 1929 and earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Southern Maine in 1959.
She began her teaching career in Boothbay and also taught in the Saco and Portland school systems in the special education department until her retirement.
She was a member of the National Education Association, the Maine Teachers Association, York County Teachers Association and a lifetime member of the Crescent Chapter No. 64 - Order of the Eastern Star.
She is predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Basil M. Libby in 1993; and a son, Donald W. Libby in 1999.
Survivors include two daughters, Norma E. Virgie of Hollis and Verna L. Smith of Lyman; six grandchildren, Edward Virgie of Saco, Donna Burke of Gorham, Janet Robertson of Windham, Roger Libby of Mesquite, Texas, Melissa Kannady of Bixby, Okla., and Jeanie Kimbrough of Broken Arrow, Okla.; seven great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.
A graveside service will be held on Friday at 1 p.m. at the Hillcrest Cemetery, Plains Road Hollis.
