Renssellaer's first wife was Eveline Barnett who he married in 1845. She died 22 Nov 1862 in Virginia. (She died in what became W. Virginia in 1863) The following 10 children were born of this union: Elizabeth J., 1845, Mary Catherine, 1847, Crawford, 1849, Robert, 1851, Emily, 1852, Timothy, 1854, Irwin, 1856, Van Renssellaer, 1858, Webster, 1860, and John B., 1861.
After Eveline's death, Renssellaer married Louisa Myers on 23 Mar 1863. The following 8 children were born of this union: Jacob, 1863, Gasper, 1865, Abraham, 1867, Shilo, 1870, Rufus H., 1872, Martha E., 1874, Flora Anna, 1876, and Andrew E., 1879.
This family left West Virginia and headed West to Kansas at some point. Renssellaer died in Missouri in 1878 and was buried in Bates County. It is not known if they were passing through Missouri or had established a home there. After his death Louisa completed moving the family to Reno County, Kansas.
