Architect, influenced by the Baroque architecture he witnessed while on a Grand Tour. A contemporary of Hawksmoor and Vanbrugh, he designed the London churches of St John, Smith Square and St Paul, Deptford as well as Birmingham Cathedral and the west front of Chatsworth House.
