J. R. "DAD" GOODE DIES ON THURSDAY AFTER AN ILLNESS
Funeral services for J. R. Goode, known to many people as "Dad" who died Thursday, were conducted at Forest Grove this afternoon at 2:30 with Rev. C. A. Sledge of Valliant officiating. Mr. Goode, who had been ill for about three months, was 80 years of age. Death was due to dropsy. He was a well known farmer in the Cisco community.
He had come to McCurtain county from Mississippi and had lived in the Cisco community for sixteen years. Surviving him are his wife, three children, Mrs. Pearl Frazier, Cisco; Jim Goode, Cisco; Mack Goode, Olla, Louisiana, and six grandchildren. Burial took place in the cemetery at Forest Grove with Skaggs Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Goode, who was found guilty of the murder of Buddy Wooten with a shotgun on July 28th, 1931, near Cisco, was sentenced in the district court here September 6th, 1932. He passed away in the hospital of the state penitentiary, where he was serving a life sentence.
