According to the U.S., Registers of Deaths of Volunteers, 1861-1865, Aquilla died of Typhoid Fever at the Lock Street General Hospital in Cincinnati.
This hospital was originally known as the Cincinnati Marine Hospital , which was built by the U.S Government in order to care for US Marines (rivermen) stationed along the western US rivers including the Ohio River. After the hospital was built, it turned out there were insufficient numbers of Marines needing hospital care to open the facility for business. Consequently, the building was largely unused for several decades until the start of the Civil War when there was a need for hospital space. It eventually became the Good Samaritan Hospital of Cincinnati.
