As shown in the Barksdale Book, written by Capt. John A. Barksdale, published 1940.

Son of Harrison Barksdale and Laura (Read) Barksdale.

Member of the Chi Psi Fraternity, Class of 1862, University of Mississippi.

He never married.

2nd Lieutenant, Co. D., 17th Mississippii Infantry, C.S.A. Killed in Action, at the Battle of the Wilderness. Would have been buried at the battlefield, most likely in a mass grave. The family has a "Burial Ground" and he isn't there, so had to have been buried on the battlefield.

He is shown on the 1860, Census, Yazoo County, MS. at 19 yrs old. The transcriber mistakenly wrote his name at "Thornton", but this was "Fountain".
