OBITUARY. MR. C, F. W. BECKMANN. Mr. Carl Frederick Wilhelm Beckmann (81), died at his residence, Melrose Farm, Mulgowle, yesterday after noon. He was born at Klepto, Prussia, and came to Australia with his parents when a boy. His first work was picking cotton at Hidden Vale in 1861. at 6d. a day, and his keep. In 1870, the family moved to old Laidley to worship. In 1881 he married Miss Mar garet Larsen. Two years later he purchased the land now known as Melrose farm on which he entered extensively into dairying and bacon curing, and at one time had an output of 6001b. of butter a week. He was a keen worker for the co-operative movement, and a director for many years of the Murarrie Bacon Factory, whose director entertained him in Brisbane on his 80th birthday. His wife died a little more than a year ago. He is survived by two sons--Meesrs. W. and A. Beckmann (Mulgowie) - and two daughters-.Miss A. Beckmann (Mulgowie) and Mrs. D. Crimmlin (Wynnum Central)
