Leland Ray Saunders quietly passed away Saturday, January 3, 2015.

He was born November 15, 1922 to Edward Thomas and Marcia Slater Saunders in Ogden, Utah.

Leland was a hard worker, working with his father in the construction business.

He was proud to serve in the U.S. Navy and worked at Hill Air Force Base before taking over Saunders Construction Company, which he ran with the upmost integrity. There are many homes, churches, and buildings built by his company.

Dad was the first mayor of Harrisville, serving for 12 years.

Our Dad’s greatest passions were his wife and children. He was a very devoted husband and the father of ten children. He was always looking after everyone and making them feel special.

He was a very stalwart member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as Elders Quorum President, Stake Young Men’s, Bishop Counselor, Bishop, Counselor in the Stake Presidency and Patriarch. He and his wife, Leila, served a mission to Australia.

He loved fishing, ran track, and played basketball. BYU and the Utah Jazz were always followed closely. He enjoyed watching all sports on TV.
