Gordon Dunn as a student at Stanford won the 1934 NCAA Champion in the discus with a throw of 162-7. At the 1936 Berlin Olympics, Dunn was the Silver Medalist. Joining the Navy during World War II, he rose to the rank of Lieutenant Commander in Naval Intelligence, At the age of 36, he became the youngest mayor in the history of Fresno CA. Dunn earned the nickname "No-Fun Dunn" because of his zest in leading raids on bordellos and gambling dens.
He became known as one of the toughest mayors in the country.
