John W. "Jack" Barnes, 76, of Rockport, died Friday, Sept. 6, 2002, at his residence in Rockport.
He was born July 23, 1926 in Bluffdale Township in Greene County to Alfred and Mary E. Wilkins Barnes. He married Kathleen Ellison. She died Oct. 30, 1982. He married Velda E. Ellison Barnes Feb. 2, 1983 in Louisiana, Mo. She survives.
Survivors are one son, Gary (wife Carol) Barnes of Pittsfield; one daughter, Eula "Sug" Brumlevey of Elsberry, Mo.; one stepson, Doug Ellison of Rockport; three stepdaughters, Janie Moyer of Elsberry, Terri (husband Dale) Ryan of Elsberry, Linda (husband Brian) Mowen of Milton; one brother, Alfred Barnes of Canton; one sister, Juanita Smith of New Canton; 15 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, sisters Helen Patton and Mary Ayers, brother Charles J. Barnes, infant twin brothers, and a step granddaughter Christina Moyer.
He was an automotive mechanic and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Funeral services were held Monday at Ward-Lummis Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill with Rev. David Schultz officiating. Cremation rites were accorded.
