Born April 15, 1922, on the family farm just outside of Metea, Edith was the youngest child of the late Henry and Bertha Paschen.
On May 22, 1942, in Logansport, she was married to Richard Edwin Chapman. Upon his return from serving in World War II, the couple moved to Logansport. After 61 years of marriage, he passed away on Dec. 26, 2003.
A 1940 graduate of Metea High School, Edith continued her education at the Indiana Business College. She was employed with Switches/Federal Mogul. Following her retirement, she missed the many friends she had made there.
Edith loved being a Christian, a wife, a mother, a grandmother and a great-grandmother. She enjoyed nearly 65 years of attending the Helm Street Church of God. After she moved to Lafayette, Pastor Dean Snyder continued to visit her. One day, he and some of her friends from church drove a van to Lafayette and took her out to eat shrimp - her favorite food. Despite a failing memory, Edith remembered that trip and the familiar faces - recalling it many times.
She was a quiet, shy, loving lady who never complained. Edith loved reading, studying the Bible and doing crossword puzzles.
Surviving are one sister, Helen Hutchison of Pompano Beach, Florida; one sister-in-law, Marguerite Hall of Logansport; two sons, David (wife Rita) Chapman of Indianapolis and Ronald (wife Kay) Chapman of Fishers; one daughter, Carol (husband Colin Nicholas) Starr of Lafayette; two grandsons, Chad (wife Alice) Starr of Bourbonnais, IL and Todd (wife Wendy)Starr of Lafayette; three great-grandsons: Owen, Zachary and Tyler; and two great-granddaughters: Brielle and Anessa.
