Fredrick L. “Fred” Athey, Sr., 87, Of Keyser WV passed away on Saturday January 3, 2015 at Moran Manor, Westernport, MD.
Fred was Born April 29, 1927 in Keyser WV, the son of the late James T. “Doc” and Sarah Jane (Kesner) Athey. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Arnold and Irving Athey and a son-in-law, Jesse R. Kasmier.
He was a graduate of Keyser High School and Wheeling Barber School and a U.S. Navy WWII veteran. He retired from Westvaco as a multi craftsman and had worked at B&O Railroad and Celanese Corporation. He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Church Choir, Boyce Houser Post #41, American Legion, and member and Past Commander of VFW Post 3518, Nancy Hanks, Keyser.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Barbara Anne (Rice) Athey; a son, Fredrick L. Athey, Jr. of Keyser; two daughters, Carol Worgan and husband James of Westernport, MD, and daughter Martha A. Kasmier of Harper Ferry. He had five grandchildren, Jennifer Oates & husband Jeff, James Worgan and wife Beth, Johnathon Worgan, Ross Kasmier and wife Dana and Sarah Jane Kasmier and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his cousin & best friend, Don Heare and several nieces and nephews.
